I’ve been a little quiet on the site this summer, but not without reason.
It’s summer! We shouldn’t be spending much time online anyway.
That said, I still want to update you on the happenings of my life, if you’re interested.
Yes, I’m still doing it. This summer has been the easiest phase of Project 333. I won’t be discussing it anymore, though. I kind of forgot about it! I’ve gained what I needed from the project and shed things I didn’t need: extra clothes! All my clothes fit in two duffel bags with the exception of a couple coats and dresses. I’m happy with that amount, and I know I will continue to streamline until I have the perfect wardrobe for myself.
My 30-Day Vegan Challenge
A few weeks ago, I announced that I was doing a 30 Day Vegan Challenge. Everything is going well, although there are days when I’m hungry because I have limited options in certain places. Keeping snacks on me at all times is essential. Most restaurants are very accommodating of my “no cheese” requests (even if I get a strange look for ordering a veggie omelet with no eggs or cheese) and I’m actually enjoying my meals more. And cheese? I don’t miss it….. except for gooey, stringy cheese pizza from my favorite Chicago pizzeria. It might be the first thing I eat after my month is over. Will I be vegan after this challenge? We’ll see.
The ladies over at 1Month.1Challenge. recently challenged readers and participants to 30 Days of Yoga or meditation. I signed myself up for the challenge because I love pushing myself to try new things. I’ve been interested in yoga for years but DVDs and books were not enough for me. I needed the experience of a class, but every yoga class I found was too expensive for me. So I never did it. When the challenge came along, I figured now’s a better time than any to finally dive into yoga The first two days were spent doing yoga at home from the same DVD and book and left me a little frustrated. I wasn’t ready to give up, though. The third day, I obtained a free week-long guest pass to a nearby fitness center and walked into my first yoga class. Turns out that class was exactly what I needed all this time. I loved it. A class is offered nearly every day and I intend to take full advantage of the free classes for the week. Then I’ll do the same thing at another fitness center, and another, until I get the hang of it or generate an income that can support expensive classes. So, yoga? I’m hooked. And I’m sore.
Planning and dreaming of tiny house is taking a backseat at the moment as my mind is focused on other things happening in the more immediate future. This doesn’t mean my fiance and I have forgotten about it; we consistently have tiny house in mind. We also set up a registry with Deposit A Gift for our wedding. Instead of asking for household items or funds towards a trip, we are asking friends and family to help us contribute to the house!
Life List Goals
Two months ago, I made a goal of crossing five things off my life list this summer. I crossed off two items so far: get my master’s degree and read War and Peace. I’m almost at the point where I can cross off another (be vegan for 30 days). Plans for a couple items on the list fell through, but I have another month to get two more things done since summer isn’t technically over until mid-September. I know I won’t be able to complete the big-ticket items on the list this year, but every little thing I cross off is one more thing I can say I’ve done!
My search for a teaching position has remained unsuccessful. With most schools beginning in a couple weeks, I’m starting to accept that I might have to search elsewhere. I’m not giving up and still hoping something will turn up at the last minute. My hours at my part-time summer job were also cut in half, and the job ends later this month. While it has freed up a lot of time for me to enjoy the rest of summer, money is still needed. My fiance also unexpectedly and quickly changed jobs to another company with a lower pay. We’re keeping our eyes open for a good opportunity where we both can be happy. All we need is just enough to get by and our happiness. We also started a small side business to acquire a little extra income. We’re in the early stages of setting it up but I’m really excited about it! We are hoping the extra income will go towards bills and tiny house.
Bogart is the name of the sweet kitten I adopted a couple months ago. Had I not saved him, he would have ended up in the street. It breaks my heart to think that someone didn’t want him, and know that many animals still wander the streets, unloved. He’s grown quite a bit and developed a unique personality! His favorite thing to do these days is play fetch. I throw a little ball across the room, he chases after it, picks it up in his mouth, brings it back to me, and drops it on the floor or in my hand. Then I throw it again. We just keep going. I spend a lot of my free time playing with him or just laying on the floor next to him, relaxing. Bogart has taught me so much about love, patience, and simple pleasures this summer. I’m madly in love with him and so glad he came into my life.
I’m reconnecting with friends again and getting back in some of my favorite social and volunteer activities. I went through a slump in July and I’m making up for it with the last few weeks of summer. August has been great so far. Last night I attended a bonfire with a group of people that have been very supportive in the last year. We all sat around the fire and took turns sharing positive thoughts and stories about each person in the group. It was a wonderful evening that opened my eyes to how much we all inspire and encourage each other. I’m so blessed to be part of such a strong community.
I’m getting married in about two months. The wedding is something I haven’t really mentioned here because my whole life does not revolve around one day, but it is a major event that will require a lot of my attention as the date nears. I’m planning to roll out with a post soon about it, so it won’t remain entirely a mystery! Am I excited? You betcha.
